5 Day Tanzania Safari Adventure (Local Expert)

Have you ever dreamed of waking up to the symphony of the wild, surrounded by the beauty of Africa? Get ready for a tale of heart-pounding encounters, breathtaking landscapes, and a journey that will touch your soul.

Let me give you a 5-day  Tanzania safari adventure itinerary (btw, I grew up in Tanzania and visit twice a year every year) where you will be amazed at the beauty of nature where every moment is a chapter in the book or a show on National Geographic.

First, where is Tanzania and where is it located? Tanzania is a country located in East Africa,   known for its diverse landscapes, including the vast Serengeti plains, Mount Kilimanjaro (the tallest mountain in Africa), and the tropical paradise of Zanzibar.

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha for Your 5 Day Tanzania Safari Adventure

There are two international airports that I know of in Tanzania, Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) which is the busiest in the country located in Dar es Salaam.

The second airport is Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), which has a few international flights from airlines we know, such as KLM and Qatar Airlines. Both KLM and Qatar Airlines serve JNIA and JRO. The distance between Dar es Salaam and Arusha is 298 miles by air and 392 miles by road.

Will be nice if you land in JRO because if you land in JNIA you will need to find a way to get to Arusha.   So after arriving in Arusha, this is how your day will go down, if you book your trip through a safari tours company, your safari guide will warmly welcome you.

Transfer to your accommodation in Arusha

There are several nice hotels in Arusha such as Gran Melia, Mount Meru, Kibo Palace, Palace Hotel, and many more.  After all, Arusha is a tourist city where there are a lot of hotels, restaurants, shops, etc.

In the afternoon, explore Arusha National Park on a game drive, where you can spot giraffes, zebras, and more against the backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the park. In the evening hang out at your hotel for a relaxing evening, soaking in the excitement of the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

On the morning of day 2, depart for Tarangire National Park, known for its large elephant herds and unique baobab trees. Enjoy a game drive through the park, encountering elephants, lions, and various bird species. Have a picnic lunch in the heart of the wilderness. Rest and unwind at your hotel, take pictures, and share stories of the day’s wildlife sightings.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater

five black and white zebras

Day 3 is Ngorongoro Day. Ngorongoro Crater is often referred to as “Africa’s Eden.” It is the world’s largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera.

The crater was voted by Seven Natural Wonders as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa in Arusha, Tanzania, in February 2013.

There are a lot of activities you can do in Ngorongoro crater such as game drives, nature walks, visiting Maasai villages,  photographic Safaris, picnics, birding, hot air ballooning, hiking to the summit of the Gol Mountains and Oldoinyo Lengai, tour of Olduvai Gorge, visiting the Empakaai Crater.

There is also visiting the Olmoti Crater, the Lerai Fever Tree Forest, and Lake Magadi. Spend the day here where you can spot rhinos, lions, hippos, and other wildlife against the stunning backdrop of the crater walls. Enjoy a picnic lunch by a hippo pool.

Day 4: Serengeti National Park

herd of water buffalo on brown grass field during daytime

Day 4 is Serengeti Day, yay probably the day you were waiting for or the only place you have heard about it in this itinerary.

The Serengeti  National Park is well known for the largest annual animal migration in the world of over 1.5 million blue wildebeest and 250,000 zebras along with smaller herds of Thomson’s gazelle.

The Serengeti is also home to the largest lion population in Africa. There are many things to do in the Serengeti such as observing the Wildebeest Migration, Hot Air Balloon Safaris, Bush meals, visiting the Serengeti Visitor Center, visiting Olduvai Gorge, Bush meals, visiting the Serengeti Visitor Center, nature walks, game drives, exploring the Bologonja Springs, and the Lobo Valley.

From Ngorongoro to Serengeti is a 3-hour drive,  so when you get there or on your way there embark on a game drive through the endless plains of the Serengeti, tracking wildebeests, zebras, and predators. Then check into your Serengeti lodge, savoring the anticipation of witnessing the remarkable wildlife spectacle.

Day 5: Serengeti’s Great Migration and Departure

herd of bulls

This depends on what time of the year your trip is, the great migration usually takes place around late June to August.  You might wonder what Serengeti’s Great Migration is.

Let me give you a little info about it, The Serengeti great migration is the movement of vast numbers of the Serengeti’s wildebeest, accompanied by large numbers of zebra, and smaller numbers of Grant’s gazelle, Thomson’s gazelle, eland and impala.

They move in an annual pattern which is fairly predictable. They constantly seek fresh grazing and water.

So if you are there around that time, set out before sunrise to witness the awe-inspiring Great Migration. Watch as thousands of wildebeests and zebras traverse the landscape in search of fresh grazing.

Then, enjoy a final game drive through the Serengeti, capturing any last glimpses of the remarkable wildlife. Bid farewell to the Serengeti and begin your journey back to Arusha.

Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)  or for your departure.

In just five days, this safari takes you through some of Tanzania’s most iconic national parks, offering a glimpse into the mesmerizing beauty of Africa’s wilderness.

From the majesty of Mount Meru to the abundant wildlife in the Ngorongoro Crater and the spectacle of the Great Migration in the Serengeti, each day is filled with unforgettable experiences.

The connections you forge with nature and the memories you create will remain etched in your heart long after your journey concludes.

Booking flights can be overwhelming with all the options available, but with a few insider tips, you can save big on airfare. One of the best hacks is to use incognito mode or clear your browsing history when searching for flights online.

Trying local cuisine is one of the highlights of travel, but it can be expensive. However, with some clever hacks, you can savor local flavors without breaking the bank.

5. Staying Connected: Staying Connected: Wi-Fi Hacks for the Digital Nomad

Staying connected while traveling is essential for many travelers, especially digital nomads. But finding reliable and affordable Wi-Fi can be a challenge. However, with some smart hacks, you can stay connected and productive.

Some of the things you can do are research and choose accommodation with reliable Wi-Fi before booking accommodation, read reviews, and check if reliable Wi-Fi is mentioned. Look for hotels, hostels, or co-working spaces that specifically cater to digital nomads or business travelers.

Use Wi-Fi mapping tools, utilize apps or websites that provide Wi-Fi maps or hotspot locators to find nearby Wi-Fi hotspots in your location you can use tools such as  Wi-Fi Finder, JiWire, and OpenSignal.

Another option is to consider investing in a portable Wi-Fi hotspot device, also known as a MiFi, which allows you to create your own Wi-Fi network using cellular data. This can be particularly useful in areas with limited or unreliable Wi-Fi coverage.

Use  A Virtual Private Network (VPN) encrypts your internet connection and enhances security while using public Wi-Fi networks. It can also help bypass geo-restrictions and access blocked content. Adjust your device’s Wi-Fi settings for optimal performance.

This may include turning off auto-connect to open networks, forgetting and re-connecting to Wi-Fi networks, and disabling Wi-Fi Assist (on iPhones) to prevent cellular data usage.

Keeping your devices and apps up-to-date with the latest software patches and updates can help improve Wi-Fi performance and security. If you’re staying in a location with a weak Wi-Fi signal, you can use a Wi-Fi extender or booster to amplify the signal and improve connectivity in your immediate vicinity.

7 Best Tips On How To Choose The Right Airbnb

Airbnb is an online marketplace focused on short-term homestays and experiences. Airbnb is a shortened version of its original name, AirBedandBreakfast.com.

Airbnb gained popularity because it was more affordable than hotels. However, nowadays the prices have increased and most of them have become the same as hotels.

Airbnb is still the better choice for people who travel in groups, with family, etc, and also offers one-of-a-kind activities designed and hosted by locals.

At an extra cost, Airbnb hosts offer their guests special knowledge, unique skills, and inside access to local places and communities that guests couldn’t find on their own.

According to Airbnb, some of the most successful experiences offered by local hosts are in Paris, France visiting the Louvre with an art historian who’s also a comedian.

In Cape TownSouth Africa mountain biking with views of Table Mountain alongside a pro bike racer. Another one in Barcelona, Spain made paella based on an old family recipe in a private garden.

Before you choose Airbnb there are several things you need to consider other than affordability. Do your due diligence because this online process is not like you can go, visit a place before you book, so dig deeper before you make your booking. Below are some things to consider when booking your Airbnb.

white sofa set near window

Location and Safety

Once you know where you are going, you are ready to book your Airbnb. However, it will be good if you know the city areas so you can filter by areas, some people will ask why you have to do all this.

First is safety, and also costs, you want to know how far you are going to be from the things you are planning to do. So what you’re gonna do when you are searching is to see where these homes/apartments are located in the city.

They usually give some little information on what is close by or how far from attractions. Once you get an idea or pick up some street name you can google and get more info such as neighborhood safety, this is very important you don’t want to end up in a place where crime rates are very high especially when you are alone.

Accessibility

Based on your needs make sure the place you are trying to book has easy accessibility. For instance, not all buildings have access to elevators, one of the Airbnb experiences I had was in Barcelona when there was no elevator and the apartment we booked was 4th floor.

The host did a good job mentioning this in descriptions and explained how the stairs are narrow. So checking accessibility is very important because you might want to be able to use a wheelchair or stroller etc.

Amenities

gray metal island table near white wooden kitchen cabinet

Make sure you read the entire description of what is available in the place you want to book. You know what you will want the place to have, so read and make sure you see what you want.

When you go to the amenities list make sure you click show all amenities. Don’t assume the place will have internet, cable, or security alarm just because most people do.

Read everything if you have questions or have doubts, contact the host so you can get your answers.

Read description

Read the full description of the place, and make sure you click to show more. This will help you to avoid any surprises, because some people usually put the good, attractive information at the top, and not so good that they will make not book the place at the bottom because they know most people don’t read until the end, or they don’t like to scroll down.

Make sure you check the number of rooms and beds because this can be confusing. Sometimes when you put the number of guests as 2, it doesn’t mean your search will bring you homes that have 2 bedrooms or 2 beds, the search can bring homes that can accommodate 2 people.

Meaning you can get one bedroom that can accommodate 2 people or you can have 2 bedrooms but only 1 has a bed and another one has a sofa. So it’s important to read the description as much as you can.

Read Rules Regulations and Fees

three women sitting at the table

This is another important thing to do. Make sure you read all the rules that the host has mentioned and also what Airbnb has provided.

The rules that are usually provided are house rules, cancellation policy, and health and safety. Again make sure you read all of them and as always click show more.

Be sure to double-check the extra fees so you can avoid them. Some hosts add service fees, but some of them do not charge service fees. Most hosts pay a service fee of 3% of the booking total but Guests typically pay a service fee of around 14% of the booking subtotal.

Another fee that you need to check is cleaning fees. The cleaning fee has been increasing and it’s not the same in every place. Some places charge $35 for cleaning fees and some $100.

These fees can make a huge difference to your final price, so before you decide to book a place check the final price, don’t just check the price per night.

Try to communicate with the host

white and green remote control

Yes, you did read the full description and you got a picture of what the place looks like. However, you can always ask questions if you have any concerns or if something was not clear.

You can ask if they can let you early if you happen to arrive early or how late can you arrive. By asking this you can tell if the host is helpful based on their reply.

You will be able to see how long it takes for them to respond, was the answer helpful? If they take time to respond that is not a good sign.

Because what if you have an emergency while you are on the property, for instance, the heat or AC is not working and you try to contact them?

Read reviews but don’t rely so much on them

Most of us like to read reviews before we decide to do any transactions, especially online. Sometimes reviews can be helpful and also misleading.

Sometimes people give reviews because they will gain something, some give reviews because they are mad or things didn’t go their way, and some give honest reviews.

If relying on reviews is your thing, look for reviews that are in-depth discussing the pros and cons of the place and the area in general.

Although it might take time, make sure to read all the reviews, you might come across reviews that are mentioning a common problem with the place that will give you an insight.

Try to avoid short reviews such as “nice” “perfect” or “great place”. Another thing that can help is to check if the host is a super host. If they are, it means they are very experienced and they will most definitely have good reviews

The Best Train Rides Around the World

Have you been thinking about the best train vacations lately?

See, when making a traveling arrangement, we often use flights or cars. We usually jump on the internet and look for flight deals or check if we can rent a car and drive to our destination and sometimes we check if we can catch a bus. But there is one type of transportation that we don’t pay attention to, which is trains!

There are many people who have not to catch a train due to different reasons. Some people think the train takes too long to get to its destination.

Some people live where there are no railway stations. One thing I know for sure is,  taking a trip by train is a great way to get an intimate view of a place.

Railways usually pass where roads cannot pass. Trains can take you over bridges, along the base of the mountains, or next to the ocean without being distracted with traffic jams, etc.
